Steps Ahead Dance

Steps Ahead Dance offers quality dance instruction for children, with the Royal Academy of Dance Ballet and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, Modern/Jazz and Tap classes in preparation for examinations. We have local performances available to all students.

The Dance Classes

Classical
Musical Movement: for ages 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 years as an introduction to all dance.
Pre-Primary Ballet: for ages 5 & 6 years. First syllabus year.
Primary Ballet: for ages 7 & 8 years.
Grade 1 Ballet: for ages 9 years or depending on previous experience.
Grade 2 Ballet and up: placement according to previous experience.

Modern Theatre
Primary: for ages 5 to 7 years.
Grade 1: for ages 8 to 10 years.
Grade 2 and up: placement according to previous experience.

Tap
Primary: for ages 6 to 7 years.
Grade 1: for ages 7 to 9 years.
Grade 2 and up: placement according to previous experience.

The Structure

Examinations: : Both Royal Academy of Dance Ballet and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance examinations are available to students meeting the required standard. A joint teacher/ parent/ student decision is held during the year and the set fee for the examination and pianist is due well before the examination/ presentation day. Missed classes are not appropriate once a student has been entered for an examination.

Uniform : A dress code has been set for each grade level. At each class, students are requested to adhere to the uniform and have their hair appropriately away from the neck and face. Please remember the dress code.

Performances : each class perfects a piece of group choreography for performance. The costume is the responsibility of the parent, although every effort is made to keep the cost down. We request that the teacher be notified if a student is to miss a class. This will assist with group choreography planning.
