Performing @ Home XIV seems a million miles behind us now, as we gather speed to head into our summer programs. Steps Ahead Performance Group (SAPG) will meet for the first time June 26th – 30th to learn no less than 10 new group choreographies. Dancers will be preparing to perform both competitively and non-competitively in the spring of 2018 at various locations on the island. Our intensive Summer Syllabus School will run as always 1st week in July. Yet again we are delighted Miss Chantelle Norris will join us on faculty as we embark on our technical endeavours for the summer and fall. Remember if your dancer is headed to Syllabus School, to purchase the RAD app from the app store. Our Fall programs are filling up, so if you know of any dancers looking for quality dance education be sure to get their names into us ASAP! Finally we have secured Lynne Johnson to host another Acrobatic Workshop (October 27th). sign up will be available in the Green Room soon. Last season this popular event SOLD OUT, so be sure to register early.

In our aim to respect the environment, we are offering a mostly paperless production again this year. There will be few printed programmes available at the theatre. However, if you wish to save this document for your personal memories, or pint your own at home, the choice is yours. PERFORMING @ HOME XIV – SHOW TIME!
THIS SHOULD BE A VERY PLEASURABLE EXPERIENCE FOR THE DANCER, HELPERS AND FACULTY. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO LETTING YOUR DANCERS SHINE – PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE FOLLOWING:
TUESDAY MAY 23rd
Act 2 –(Modern and Tap) – Technical Rehearsal
All dancers to be in Costume with correct hairstyle (NO MAKE-UP)
All dancers to be ready at 4pm
All younger students to have their mum/dad/guardian with them in the audience
All dancers to watch the rehearsal
All dancers will have group photo taken on stage
Solo photos (if you wish) to take place in the lobby – you must complete a photo order envelope and return to Kathy Paton at the photo shoot. We start with the finale and then go to the 1st dance.
WEDNESDAY MAY 24th
Act 1 – (Ballet) – Technical Rehearsal
As per Act Two………
THURSDAY MAY 25th
Full Dress Rehearsal of Both Acts
All dancers to be in costume with correct hairstyle (NO MAKE-UP)
Dancers in Act One to be ready at 4pm
Dancers in Act Two ready at 5pm
Full run of both acts
NO DANCERS OR PARENTS IN THE AUDIENCE
PARENT VOLUNTEERS MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE – DANCERS MUST BE SIGNED OUT AFTER THE REHEARSAL IS OVER – ACT ONE WILL END APPROX 5.30PM AND ACT TWO APPROX 7.30PM.SHOW TIME
Friday 26th 7pm and Saturday 27th 2pm and 7pm
NB this is 30 mins earlier than past years!

All Dancers in Act one should arrive by 6.30pm (matinee 1.30pm) Costume, Hair and make-up!
All Dancers in Act two should arrive by 7pm (matinee 2pm)
Parent volunteers should be responsible for their group until a parent has collected each and every student.
Students in Act one (only) are welcome to watch Act two with their family (assuming they have a ticket)! Visa versa also applies.
If you are not watching the show – you are able to take your student home as soon as the finale for their act is over. Act one finale is estimated to end at 8pm. (matinee 3pm)

First Term was a great success with RAD ballet graded examinations completed. Now we prepare for our busy 2nd term! RAD vocational exams, ISTD Modern Theatre and Tap exams, JPG & SPG performance opportunities and Dance Odyssey presentation on Feb 4th (Nanaimo – JPG) along with much show planning! Tickets will be available for Performing @ Home at theatre.brentwood.bc.ca in the next few weeks. If you are interested in joining us for Steps to Disney ’18 – applications will be taken until March 15th 2017. (Welcome to the few new students who have joined us at this point of our annual journey!) #inspire

Day of Ballet Review – Thursday August 31st

  • 9am Primary
  • 10am Gr 2
  • 11am Gr 3
  • Noon Gr 4
  • 1pm Gr 5
  • 2pm Gr 6
  • 3pm Gr 7


These are specifically to assist the exam/award candidates prepare for the busy fall term – but all students at these levels are welcome. Inter Foundation will not meet on August 31st.

Day of SAPG Review – Friday September 1st

All SAPG dancers to meet at the studio between 4pm and 8pm. Remember to bring all of your dance shoes and wear rehearsal clothing. (If you are attending Miss Chantelle’s intensive week – simply arrive as soon as you can).

Regular Classes Commence Saturday September 9th

During our first week back we will host a “Gently Used” Dance wear sale.

Saturday 9th – Saturday 16th, Green Room
Drop off items in zip lock bags, labelled with name and price. Items accepted include:
Pink Bodysuits, Character shoes, character skits, tap shoes, CLEAN pink leather ballet shoes, and any higher grade bodysuits.
Items not accepted: Pale and royal blue bodysuits, tights and socks, canvas shoes.
Saturday September 16th – all zip lock bags to be collected.

Thanksgiving Break  Steps Ahead is closed Saturday 7th and Monday 9th October.

Winter Open House 25th – 30th November: All welcome to observe regular classes.

Steps to Disneyland – a great success

Steps to Disneyland – a great success

disney finale onstageSteps Ahead Dance is very proud of the 33 dancers who took part in our Steps to Disneyland trip. Two inspiring workshops were included where each dancer had the opportunity to learn and grow as a performer. The final day included our 30 minute performance of production numbers, entitled “The Red Carpet”. This performance (along with our annual Ballet) can be enjoyed by all on Saturday May 28th at 2.30pm. Tickets on sale: theatre.brentwood.bc.ca

Next Steps to Disney – planned for Feb 2018. All dancers age 10 and up invited to participate. More info to follow.
